Not all lawyers understand what it takes to run a brand. Francesca does.

Francesca Woods is a commercial lawyer and the founder of The Small Print Law, providing fractional general counsel and business advisory services to premium consumer brands across Australia and New Zealand.

With 19 years in law and 16 years of in-house experience, Francesca brings a depth of commercial context that most external advisers can’t match. She understands the operational realities these businesses face because she’s navigated them firsthand — across multiple sectors, and as a founder herself.

Having founded three companies and served on the board of a tech startup in a combined legal and strategic advisory role, Francesca knows what it feels like to make high-stakes decisions under pressure. That perspective shapes everything about how she works with clients.

Her practice is deliberately lean. Clients deal with Francesca directly, every time. No juniors, no padded scope, no surprise bills.

She is based between Auckland, New Zealand and a registered lawyer in both Australia and New Zealand. Francesca works with clients across both markets and internationally.
